When
my children were still tadpoles, our house was visited annually by
Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. But we were also visited
periodically by the Book Toad (and the PEZ Bird, too, but that's
another story). The Book Toad would leave a book on the fireplace mantle for each member
of the family. His visits were always a
surprise, as they did not come on a scheduled date or even at a set time
interval. The tadpoles would eagerly read and enjoy their books.
Along with Mom and Dad, the Book Toad encouraged the tadpoles'
love of reading.
If you
want to encourage your child's love of reading, read to them often.
Make reading a part of your daily interaction with your child.
Children imitate their parents. So let them see you
reading, too.
